    RESIDENCE IN MEGANISI, LEFKAS

Located on a yet uninhabited peninsula of Lefkas’ Meganisi, with the sea, sun and native flora forming the only surrounding elements, this project takes on the task of installing the first inhabitant, and by extension the responsibility of setting an example for future developments. The primary goal was a harmonious integration of a residence into the natural landscape, causing minimal disruption to surrounding ecosystems.

A mild elevation of the natural landscape creates an elongated shaded slit, that shelters almost all activities of the tenants. Facing the open sea and cloaked beneath a roof fully covered by vegetation, the structure is solely rendered visible to passing boats. The visual imprint is further reduced by the use of local stone and earthy colors, which seamlessly blend the structure into the natural environment.

Within the residence, all spaces are sequentially lined up, acting as large uninterrupted frames of open sea for the tenants as they move through the common spaces to the bedrooms. The surrounding area of the building is left mostly undeveloped, allowing it to remain fully engulfed by native vegetation.
